The Position
Full time (10 PA's) Consultant in Paediatrics
We would welcome colleagues with a sub-specialty interest in neurodisability and child development. There would also be the opportunity for the successful candidate to undertake or develop a specific role or responsibility in line with the candidates experience and requirements of the service. The main duties of the post will include;
• General Paediatric, Neurodisability and Child Development clinics
• Participation in the Department Safeguarding Rota
• Administrative duties, for which appropriate office space and secretarial support is provided
• Consultant of the week cover for acute Paediatrics (+/- Neonates) at Pinderfields 08:30 – 16:30 hrs, shared with colleagues on an approximate 1 in 7 basis, Monday to Friday.
• Consultant of the week cover for acute Paediatrics at Dewsbury 10.00 – 18.00 hrs, shared with colleagues on an approximate on an approximate 1 in 13 basis, Monday to Friday
• On-call duties for Paediatrics (+/- Neonates) shared with colleagues on an approximate 1 in 11 basis (1 in 7 if combined with Neonates) Monday to Friday, 16.30 hours until 08.30 hours off site cover, with resident cover in Paediatrics 16.30 until 21.30
• On-call duties, 1 in 4 weekends. Weekend on calls in Paediatrics are shared with Colleagues so that on-call hours are either during the day or overnight.
• Supporting Professional Activities in accordance with the Trust Framework, with at least a minimum of 1.5 SPAs included in the core 10PA timetable. Additional SPA or DCC time may be commissioned in line with the skills of the successful candidate and changing requirements of the service.
Health Service
Children’s services are delivered three Trust sites. We have Neonatal unit which has an excellent working relationship with our Obstetric team. The Children’s ward has specialist HDU and Burns areas, who work in closely with our surgical colleagues in a multidisciplinary team. Within Paediatrics’ Services there are dedicated Children’s Accident and Emergency and Children’s Assessment units and offer a wide range of comprehensive services to our patients Trust wide including:
Regional Children’s Burns Centre
Dedicated Children’s Outpatients on all 3 sites
Diabetes and Endocrine service
Epilepsy Service
Child Development Service
Cardiology Service
Rheumatology Service
Neonatal Medicine
Gastroenterology Service
Nephrology Service
Respiratory Service

Full GMC Registration with licence to practise
Inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register or within 6 months of obtaining CCT (or CESR / equivalent)
MB ChB or equivalent
MRCPCH or equivalent
On the specialist register for General Paediatrics
Training relevant to neurodisability and child development Up to date EPLS / APLS/ NLS or equivalent resuscitation course

£82,096 to £110,683/year

Mentoring
Newly appointed senior medical staff will be offered mentoring opportunities either within the department or within the wider Trust and may be specified by the appointments committee. There is an induction and development programme for all new staff.
Continuing Professional Development
The Trust requires all its doctors to engage with continuing professional development, guided by the relevant professional associations or Royal Colleges. Time and funding is provided according to departmental and Trust policies, subject to approval through the clinical management structures. There is a programme of mandatory training which all relevant staff must complete as required.
Teaching
The Trust is keen to maintain its reputation for high quality training and to attract the highest calibre of trainee and career-grade doctors. All senior doctors are involved in training our doctors, students and other professions. There are many opportunities to develop training and education roles and many have taken on educational leadership roles within and beyond the Trust.
Research
Medical staff are encouraged to develop areas of personal and/or research interest. This can be developed in liaison with the Trust’s R&D department and in line with prevailing policies and research frameworks. The Trust is developing an expanding and outward-looking research programme.
