The Position

This trust in the North-West of England are offering the successful candidate a 10PA Permanent contract, with no unsocial hours. No on-calls required as a part of this rota.

This represents a fantastic opportunity to join an energetic motivated and innovative team, who have demonstrated success in providing new models of care in Acute Medicine.

The successful candidates will be encouraged to develop a special interest to complement the other members of the department and will participate in the provision of medical services to the population of the local area. This is an opportunity to join an organisation in which Clinicians are at the forefront of management.

Health Service

The Acute Medical Unit is situated on the 30-bedded Larch AB ward, and the 29 bedded EAU at the second site, and comprises acute admission and short stay for medical admissions only. Patients are admitted directly from the community following assessment by general practice, or from the Emergency Department. The typical take is of 40-50 patients at Site 1 and 10-20 patients at Site 2 over 24 hours. Patients admitted overnight become the responsibility of the Acute Medical Consultant at 8am, and are reviewed as part of a post-take ward round by the Acute Medical Consultant.

Essential Criteria

  • Full Registration with the General Medical Council.
  • Member of the Royal College of Physicians or equivalent
  • Proof of competency in emergency and elective index cases
  • Completed Higher Specialist Training (CCT) in General (Internal) Medicine, Acute Internal Medicine or evidence of equivalent competency.
  • Experience of and commitment to teaching undergraduate and postgraduate medical staff.

The Package

The Full-time working week will consist of 10 Programmed Activities (PAs), separated into:

Direct Clinical Care 7.5 PA worked flexibly on an annualised basis to allow an average of

• 6 PA Assessment/Admission unit

• 1.5 PA Sub speciality/Special interest

• Administration. DCC Admin will be allocated in direct proportion to number of DCC worked in Acute Medicine (0.25PA Admin for every 1PA DCC). For example a consultant working 6PA in Acute Medicine would undertake 1.5 PA Admin.

• Supporting Professional Activities 1.5 SPA (additional or adjustment of sessional time may be negotiated as part of job planning to encompass duties such as additional teaching and training commitments)
