The Position
Full time SHO/Junior SpR Hospital Doctor in General Medicine
The applicant will be the most senior medical doctor on sight OOH (along with surgical and anaesthetic juniors) with responsibilities for the wards, admissions and CCU. A minimum of 1 yr at SHO (i.e. post foundation year) experience in required.
The on-call commitment is a 1 in 7 resident, shift-based rota supported by five Consultant Physicians and resident intensivists. Candidates are expected to be competent in dealing with acute medical emergencies when on-call. There is a study leave budget available for approved courses
Health Service
Applications are invited from experienced Junior Doctors in General Medicine for appointment to the above vacancy within the Gibraltar Health Authority (GHA). The GHA is organised and modelled on the UK NHS and follows traditions of British medical practice. Applicants must be registered with the UK General Medical Council with a licence to practice. Non-native English speakers must have a good command of English. The post is available for commencement with immediate effect.

Gibraltar
Gibraltar is located at the mouth of the Mediterranean with easy access to the South of Spain and Morocco. As a British Overseas Territory, English is the main language with Spanish widely spoken. These posts give an opportunity for enthusiastic Junior Doctors to develop their skills in General Medicine in a relaxed, friendly and supportive environment whilst enjoying the benefits of the Mediterranean climate and surrounding amenities.
Essential Criteria
MBBS or equivalent
GMC registration with license to practice
A minimum of 1 yr at SHO (i.e. post foundation year)
Applicants must have a minimum of three years’ experience in acute general medicine and related medical subspecialties, including coronary care.
MRCP is desirable
The Package
£88,248 per annum
This appointment will be on contract terms for a period of 12 months and may be renewed conditional on satisfactory completion of the term of service and the circumstances prevailing within the department at the time. The total value of salary package is up to £88,248. This is dependent on years of reckonable service and inclusive of an out of hours’ supplement. Income tax rates in Gibraltar compare very favourably with the European average. Return economy class air-fares from the UK are payable in full. In addition, a rented accommodation allowance of between £800 and £1200, dependant on family composition, is payable, solely whilst on a fixed term contract and upon submission of an official rental agreement.
Non-EU nationals should note that a Schengen Visa is required in order to be able to transit through Europe. This is obtained from the applicant’s place of residence. Please note that Schengen Visas cannot be obtained through Gibraltar.
