The Position
Full Time 3 Month Fixed Term Consultant Otolaryngologist.
The appointee will support the existing Consultants in providing a General Ear, Nose and Throat Service and in particular will enable the provision of a consultant-based service as recommended by Royal College of Surgeons. He/she will be expected to further support the existing service in the management of both acute and non-acute Ear, Nose and Throat Surgery. Appropriate expertise in surgery would be desirable. He/she would be responsible for providing professional leadership in General Ear, Nose and Throat Surgery care, promoting the development of evidence based clinical practice and guidelines, and ensuring the continued introduction of the necessary elements of clinical governance in the Ear, Nose and Throat Service. The final job plan will be agreed in discussion between the successful candidate and the Lead Clinician in ENT, Planned Care and will be subject to Annual Review.
On-Call Commitment
The appointee will be expected to partake equally in the 1 in 3 weekday on-call service at Countess of Chester and a 1 in 10 weekend on call service
Health Service
The department of Ear, Nose and Throat Surgery provides a comprehensive service to a population of approximately 250,000. The specialty is part of the Planned Care Division. The team provides elective surgery for GP referrals subject to agreed Commissioner protocols. The department provides a wide range of services including Otology, Neck Lump and Thyroid service and General ENT treatment. The department is renowned in the region with respect to any complex major middle ear intervention and is a regional referral centre for Bone Anchored Hearing Aid

Essential Criteria
Full GMC registration
FRCS or equivalent qualification
Entry on the GMC Specialist Register or eligibility for entry within 6 months of the date of interview
Relevant CCT (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview)
Evidence of experience in Thyroid/Parathyroid area of ENT surgery, Laryngology.
Evidence of working in a multidisciplinary team
Broad experience in General ENT
