The Position
The duties include, and are not limited to Paediatric Emergency department care, including assessment, clerking and treatment for children and young people attending the service Working closely with the adjoining paediatric department Liaising with other secondary care specialties, community services and primary care as required for individual patient care Participating in the compilation, checking and analysis of data for medical audit. Health Service
he Paediatric Emergency Department (ED) sees approximately 28,000 patients a year. The team is made up of 4 Specialty Doctors (including this post), 3 Emergency Medicine ST3 and 1 x GPVTS. In addition to this we have 2 x Emergency Nurse Practitioners and 2 x Advanced Nurse Practitioners working in the ED. We have 3 x PEM consultants and additional cover provided by General ED consultants. We have an excellent close working relationship with the in-patient medical Paediatric teams. The Paediatric Department includes the dedicated Children's Accident & Emergency Department with a 4 bedded Assessment Bay, a 16 -bedded in-patient ward 1 HDU bed and a 6-bed day case unit including facilities for adolescents. There is a designated Modern Paediatric Outpatient Department at Ormskirk Hospital. The clinical team in the Paediatric ED cover the department between 8am up to 2am. The role involves the assessment and treatment of all children attending the Emergency Department. This post involves weekend working 1:4 weekends and no night shift work. Essential Criteria
Full registration with the medical council and licensed to practice
MB ChB
MBBS
Minimum 2 years at Tier 1 level
Minimum 12 months experience in Paediatrics or Emergency Medicine
Must have experience of managing acute patients
Basic Paediatric Life Support Skills
APLS
Ability to work unsupervised
Desirable Criteria
MRCPCH/ FRCEM Primary/ Intermediate/ MRCEM
