The Position
Full Time (10PA of which 7.5 sessions DCC and 2.5 SPA) Consultant in Emergency Medicine.
Suitably-qualified applicants who are unable to work full-time for personal reasons will be considered. The Trust is committed to flexible working arrangements, including job sharing. Such arrangements will be discussed with any shortlisted candidates on a personal basis.
The successful applicant will be expected to take a full and active part in all aspects of patient’s medical care, providing both a consultant led and a consultant delivered service. This will include taking operational responsibility for the day-to-day running of the department, ensuring the delivery of high quality clinical care and the achievement of relevant clinical and performance standards. He or she will be responsible for managing their own patients as well as the direct clinical supervision of both specialty and training grade doctors and extended role nurse practitioners. Emergency Department consultants lead all trauma calls 24/7 and provide round the clock thrombolysis for eligible stroke patients. There is a consultant delivered review clinic for follow up of pre-determined cases three mornings a week.
Health Service
The Emergency Department (ED) sees approximately 50,000 new patients per year of whom approximately 25% are children. A further 20,000 are seen in the affiliated Minor Injury Units (MIUs). The successful applicant will join an enthusiastic consultant team that supports and delivers a modern, comprehensive emergency service. This is a small, friendly department with big ideas and a commitment to improving our service by embracing change and innovation. The Trust is a unique organisation with integrated acute and community services across South West England. The acute hospital provides a full complement of secondary care services for the local population, including emergency care, cancer services, maternity and paediatric services. It is a designated Trauma Unit and Cancer Unit.

Essential Criteria
Primary Medical Qualification (MBBS or equivalent).
Postgraduate Qualification in Emergency Medicine
CCT in FRCEM or equivalent (or within six months at time of AAC interview).
Full GMC registration & licence to practice.
On the GMC Specialist Register in Emergency Medicine (or within six months at time of acceptance of post). Must be on the Specialist Register by the time of commencement in post.
