The Position
Full Time (10 PA's) Consultant Gastroenterologist
The following is not an exhaustive or exclusive list of the duties of a consultant within the Surgical Division.
Ward based Gastroenterology inpatient care
Gastroenterology outpatient clinic service
Contribute to a 1:12 on call GI bleed rota
Active participation in clinical governance
Educational and clinical supervision of junior staff
Active participation in teaching and training of juniors
The successful candidate will have a broad experience in the management of both Gastroenterology inpatients and Gastroenterology outpatients and will have to engage in upper and lower GI clinics and STT pathways. The successful candidate will be expected to cover a minimum of two clinics per week, with a clinic profile of 4 new and 10 follow-ups. The candidate will also be expected to do a minimum of two endoscopy lists per week which will be in line with the BSG guidelines.
The successful candidate needs to be fully competent in all aspects of upper and lower GI endoscopy as well as management of GI bleeding. The Endoscopy team including the successful applicant can contribute to the Cancer Collaborative innovation at Mile End Hospital.
The successful candidate will be expected to provide:
Endoscopy
Supervision of junior doctors and nursing staff
Active participation in departmental meetings
Contribution to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching
The successful candidate will be expected to comply with all relevant Trust policies relating to administration of patient care. This includes working to set timescales for the triage of referrals, the completion of discharge summaries prior to patients being discharged, following the specified process for the management of patients that do not attend (DNA) their appointment or admission, and the completion of all paperwork deemed necessary to support the management of their patients within agreed timescales. Consultants are also expected to work with service managers and clinical colleagues to manage their caseload in a flexible way, to ensure clinical, national and local priorities, such as maximum waiting times for referral to treatment, are achieved.

The Trust will be very supportive of developing specialist interests which is essential. This could include endoscopic ultrasound, IBD, Bowel Cancer Screening, General Hepatology or complex therapeutic endoscopy.

MRCP or Equivalent

£82,096 - £110,683 per annum
