The Position
Full time 10 PAs (plus on call enhancements) Emergency And Acute Medicine Physician (50/50 Job Split)
Successful candidates will join a dedicated team of Emergency and Acute Physicians ina busy fast flow environment incorporating the Emergency Department, Acute MedicalUnit, Short Stay Unit and Ambulatory Emergency Care (all of which will form part of ournew Emergency Village).We are seeking applicants who will join us in our commitment to providing high quality,consultant delivered emergency and acute care. Successful candidates will also have the ability to make a major contribution to thetraining and development of our junior medical staff, extended role nursing staff andwider professional team. The purpose of this post is to support both teams and providebroad and detailed knowledge, skills and expertise to the Departments covering a 16 hour service.
Health Service
The department footprint currently comprises of the following:
- Reception area with 24 hour clinical streaming to GP OOH’s service / UrgentTreatment Centre
- Ambulance triage area Walk in triage area
- 4 resuscitation bays (1 of which for paediatrics)Majors assessment and treatmentarea
- Minors assessment and treatment area Dedicated x-ray service in department
- Dedicated paediatric area.
The department receives all unheralded emergencies and is a Trauma Unit receiving inexcess of 90,000 patients per year. There is some seasonal fluctuation in attendance asBlackpool is a popular seaside resort attracting many visitors and holiday makersthroughout the year
The Acute Medicine department is located above the Emergency Department alongsidethe Surgical Assessment Unit.
The team currently cover the following areas :
- AMU (36 bedded unit)
- Short Stay Unit (17 bedded unit)
- Ambulatory Emergency Care (seated and trolley area including clinics plus 14 beds for GP admissions)
The Emergency Medicine Senior Medical Team is supported by:
- 10 Senior/ Specialty Doctors
- 2x Senior Medical Trainees
- 6x ST3’s (bullet point here please)
- 18x FY2’s / GPST’s / ST1’s / ACCS’s / Clinical Fellows / Physician Associates
- 6x FY1’sThe department also has a growing team of ANP’s / ENP’s / ACP’s
The Acute Medicine Senior Medical Team is supported by:
- 8x Middle Grades
- 7x ST1 juniors
- 1x Physician Associate
- ACP’s and trainee ACP’s
- Plus medical trainees ranging from FY1 – GPST
The Location
North West England
Essential Criteria
MRCEM/ MRCP or equivalent
MBBS or equivalent
ETC / APLS/ATLS/ALS / EPALS
Full GMC registration
8 years post primary qualification with 4years at ST3+ or equivalent grade.
Ability to take independent responsibilityfor the management of all ED presentations
Experience of another specialty(Emergency or Acute Medicine)
The Package
£82,096 - £110,683/ year

There will be a relocation package made availableof up to £8000 in line with the Trust policy and MHRC guideline.
