The Position
Full time (10 PA's (plus 1 PA on call rota)) Consultant Physician with an Interest in Stroke Medicine
The post holder will:
Undertake clinics for patients suspected of having had a TIA
Undertake ward rounds on the Combined Stroke Unit at Southport Provide supervisionof junior doctors within the team, including StR in Geriatric Medicine
Support delivery of national targets (eg 18 weeks, TIA, Stroke Length of Stay) and to further develop the service using data from SSNAP and AQ which the trust is fully signed up to.
Participate in MDT and Family Meetings
Attend the Emergency Department at the request of ED Staff or Stroke Specialist nurse to assess patients for thrombolysis during working hours
Participate in rolling teaching programme
Health Service
The 20 bedded Acute Stroke Unit is at Hospital Site A which includes expansion of our hyperacute stroke services, the post holder will support the stroke team in providing a specialist service. The successful candidate will be supported by a well-established, dedicated stroke MDT and a stroke specialist nurse. We are also supported by trainees from the deanery and an excellent admin team comprising personal assistants & medical secretaries. To support service needs the post will work across two sites in addition we provide outpatient services at both sites, including General Medicine / Stroke & TIA Clinics. The Stroke Ward is based at Site A and an expectation of this post is to carry out inpatient ward rounds and board rounds. Participation in the Telestroke on-call rota is currently in place. An on call intensity supplement which is payable.

Essential Criteria
MRCP or Equivalent
On the specialist register with a CCT in General Medicine and Geriatrics or within 6 months of achieving this
Knowledge and experience of General Medicine and multidisciplinary Geriatric Medicine.
Extensive training and experience in General and Geriatric Medicine in an accredited training programme.
Desirable Criteria
MSc, MD or PhD
Experience in Stroke Medicine

£82,096 - £110,683 per annum
