The Position
Full time (10 PA's) Consultant in Upper GI Surgery
An opportunity has arisen for a Fixed Term Locum Consultant General and Upper GI Surgeon to join our rapidly developing team within the Upper GI Surgery Directorate. Applications are invited for a Surgeon with a specialist interest in Laparoscopic Upper GI Surgery. This post forms part of the Directorate’s strategy to expand the Upper GI service and further develop minimal access surgery. The post-holder will join the existing team of six substantive and 1 locum Upper GI Surgeons who are responsible for providing specialist Upper GI and Bariatric surgical services.
The successful candidate will contribute to prioritised elective work and acute care. This will include contribution to the General surgical on call rota and acute care surgical clinics. They should have good experience in laparoscopic and emergency surgery in order to support our service for the local population. It is envisaged that dynamic appointees will have opportunity to be involved with academic research, teaching, training and specialist clinical development opportunities.
Job plan - (average, dependent on rotational period) 10PA
To manage average of 2 - 4 theatre sessions per week
To manage average of 1 - 2 outpatient clinics per week
To participate in multidisciplinary meetings To participate in the acute surgical rota (1:12)
To work to directorate agreed management guidelines
Health Service
The Upper GI surgical department is a large busy unit providing full spectrum of upper GI surgical services to the local population in the acute and elective setting as part of the University Trust. The Upper GI department performs high volume laparoscopic benign upper GI surgery for the local population and contributes to the emergency general surgical service. Additionally, the unit specialises in Bariatric Surgery providing a comprehensive weight management repertoire through a multidisciplinary environment. The service also provides tertiary Oesophago-gastric cancer surgery, with a particular interest in minimally invasive oesophago-gastric cancer resections.

Essential Criteria
The post holder must be fully registered with the General Medical Council with a licence to practise and is advised to maintain up to date membership of a recognised medical defence organisation. The appointee will be required to live within a distance that allows safe discharge of all clinical commitments and no more than a 10 mile distance from the base (unless there is prior agreement with the Medical Director) or 30 minutes travelling of your base hospital.

£82,096 to £110,683/year pro rata
