The Position
Consultant in Acute Medicine
This post is a full time post (10 PAs) with responsibilities for inpatient management for Acute Medicine and patients managed by the Ambulatory Emergency Care unit.
The job plan also includes 2 PA per week for a specialist interest. The exact details will depend on the desires of the successful applicant but could include outpatient clinics, procedure lists e.g. endoscopy, bronchoscopy, ECHO or sub-speciality meetings.
Clinical Responsibilities
This post has responsibility for patients managed under the Acute Care Hub in each of its three areas, supported by a junior doctor team. The Acute Care Physician (ACP) consultants run the Hub out of hours in conjunction with the speciality physicians (SCP). The Assessment and Observation Unit (AOU) is the area for assessing patients by the medical team. The medical on-call receives about 35 patients in 24 hours. It is supported by the consultant Physician of the Day (POD) made up from a combination of ACP and SCP. Junior doctors rotate through the department and there are a day shift of 1x FY1, 1x FY2+ (FY2, CMT or GPVTS) and 1x ST3+ all day with additional FY2+ and ST3+ on a late shift. Overnight the AOU is mainly run by a FY2+ and ST3+ with an FY1 and CMT/GPVTS covering the wards (supported as needed).

Department Information
Clinical services in the Trust are organised into 5 Divisions each chaired by a Divisional Director. Each Division is subdivided into Service Delivery Units lead by a SDU Director who is accountable to the Divisional Director who in turn reports to the Medical Director.

Essential Criteria
The person appointed will be required to be fully registered with the GMC and included on the Specialist Register.

£76,0761 - 103,490/ year
Consultant Mentorship- The Trust provides and support mentoring for new Consultants.
Pensions- This post is subject to the provisions of the NHS Superannuation Scheme, which is contributory. The rate of contribution may be varied from time to time at the discretion of the Scheme. Membership of the scheme is automatic but an employee may opt out at any time. After opting out of the scheme the employee will assume full responsibility for his/her pension provision and compliance with the Social Security Act 1986.
