The Position

The successful candidate will play a major role in the modernisation of the emergency care pathway following the introduction of the national Clinical Quality Indicators and through an extensive programme of development in the Trusts and health economy emergency flow improvement programme.

You will have excellent clinical skills and the ability to lead on the shop floor. You will be expected to be active in the teaching and supervision of both undergraduates and postgraduate doctors. We receive excellent feedback from trainees and students. We want to continue to build this reputation as well as advancing standards of clinical care that are at the cutting edge of our specialty. We are looking for applicants who will contribute towards this and who will help us to drive the development of modern emergency care in our local health community.

We would be particularly interested in candidates who wish to develop the roles in Academic Emergency Medicine and Paediatric Emergency Medicine.

Health Service

The Emergency Department at this Hospital, currently sees in excess of 44,000 attendances per year. Presentations across the spectrum of illness and injury, at any age, are seen. We are proud to have a true traditional case mix of patients. This Hospital is a fully accredited Trauma Unit within the Northern Trauma Network.

The Emergency Department has embraced the new clinical performance indicators from the Government and Royal College of Emergency Medicine. We have engaged with recent CQC, ECIST and GIRFT inspections and working hard to develop and improve our practice across both sites.

Essential Criteria

  • MRCP (UK or equivalent)
  • Full GMC Registration
  • Entry on the General Medical Council (GMC) Specialist Register

The Package

The job plan shall be based on a 10 PA (8DCC & 2SPA) offering a salary of between £79,860 - £107,668 per annum (plus 10% premia).

Candidates with specific sub-specialist interests that can be supported locally may also be offered an 11PA job plan. Hours may be annualised through negotiation and to fit with service need.

The job plan is subject to review once a year with the Consultant, Clinical Manager and Clinical Director. The successful candidate will be encouraged to develop any particular interest she or he has and a timetable will be agreed in advance, to reflect the particular interests of the applicant, the specialist interests of the existing Consultants, and the needs of the Trust.
