The Position
This position is for an Consultant Acute Physician to undertake front line work in the Emergency Assessment Unit (EAU), the Emergency Department and the recently developed Ambulatory Emergency Care Unit (AEC) with the medical admitting team. This will include overseeing the medical take, performing post-take (intra-take) ward rounds, making specialty referrals, caring for short-stay in patients for up to 48 hours on the EAU, facilitating timely discharge and follow up plans and where required following patients up as ambulatory care patients.
Health Service
The successful candidate joins three full-time Consultant Acute Physicians and 2 part time Associate Specialists to create a team of five, working within the Emergency Admissions Unit, Emergency Department and AEC. There is currently a review of the Acute service to ensure the consultant staffing levels match the needs of the service.
It is an extremely exciting time to join this trust as they have established a highly successful Ambulatory Emergency Care Unit, supported by Advanced Nurse Practitioners. This is co-located with the Emergency Department and sees all ambulant patients referred to them by their GP as well as other patients.

This NHS trust is situated in the South West of England. This town has a great history and there are plenty of things to see and do in the local area. The town has a main railway line that is well linked to the bigger cities in the UK.
Essential Criteria
Education, Qualifications and Training:
MBBS and MRCP or equivalent
Full GMC registration with a license to practice (or be in the process)
Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via:
-CCT
-CESR
-European Community Rights
Experience
Depth and breadth of clinical experience in General Medicine and Acute Medicine.
Experience in a special interest that will complement those existing in the department.
Skills, abilities and knowledge
Willingness and ability to fulfill the key elements of the job description.
Ability to cope with the demands of a DGH based Consultant.
Ability to lead and develop the service
Ability to develop effective working relationships on an individual, multi-professional and team basis with all levels.
Ability to communicate effectively
Understanding of clinical governance and the individual responsibilities it implies.

Knowledge of the NHS plan/modernisation agenda and the implications for service

The Package
The trust are offering between £77,913 and £105,042, dependent on experience. You will need to provide evidence of service in order for the actual salary to be evaluated.
This post entails 11 programmed activities (11PA) per week in total.
DCC: 7.5
SPA: 2.5
On-call commitment: 1 PA + on-call supplement
