The Position
This Trust is recruiting for a SHO level Geriatric doctor to join them ASAP. This post is a 2-year rotational post. The departments you may rotate through include General Medicine, Geriatric Medicine, Haematology Oncology, Acute Medicine, Renal Medicine, Respiratory Medicine, Gastroenterology and Cardiology. While these are not training posts, the successful candidate will have the same access to education and training opportunities as trainees.
Key Responsibilities include:
1. Monitor and assist the Foundation Doctors (FY1 and FY2) in the day-to-day management of in-patients
2. Participate in ward rounds
3. Attend outpatient clinics.
4. Participate in an on-call roster where required.
5. Complete discharge summaries and communicate with GPs and other clinical colleagues as required.
6. Undertake audit at various times throughout the rotations.
7. Provide teaching to medical students
Health Service
This Health Service underwent a major refurbishment less than 10 years ago and now boasts a modern hospital with 1,200 beds, 28 theatres and two interventional radiology suites. It has a state of the art pathology library and superb critical care facilities. It’s ED is one of the busiest in the country and this hospital delivers over 6,000 babies per year.
The Location
This hospital is located England’s beautiful south coast, in a region that is known for its maritime heritage and an historic dockyard. The dockyard is home to many interesting places to visit such as the interactive National Museum of the Royal Navy and the wooden warship HMS Victory. The hospital is near both stunning national parks and has excellent transport links to London. The nearest train station is within 10 minutes walking distance and it is just a 15 minutes car journey to the city centre where you can find many bars and restaurants.
Essential Criteria
Qualifications
- Full GMC registration with a licence to practice
- MRCS or equivalent
- Completed PLAB (if applicable) with a view to obtaining full GMC registration ASAP
- ALS
- IETS (overall 7.5 score) Clinical Experience
- Evidence of completion of Foundation Level or equivalent

- Experience of working within the NHS (desirable) Clinical Skills
- Ability to take clear and concise case histories and good clinical examination
- Ability to initiate treatment of common surgical conditions.
- Demonstrate evidence of being able to manage/prioritise time
